We understand the challenges that come with TMJ issues, and we are here to support you every step of the way. Your comfort and well-being are our top priorities.  Through a carefully designed treatment to help reduce pain and regain function.  The treatment combines the healing power of two modalities: John Barnes' style Myofascial Release and the gentle and powerful art of Acupuncture.  To aid your healing even further the root cause is also addressed with herbal medicine.

Understanding the whole body approach

The músculo-skelatal system is complex.  The entire system works in unison to help us move through our day, do our work, and even run and play.  There are 3 pairs of muscle like particularly like to balance each other and those are Piraformis, Iliopsoas, and the pterygoids.  You may ask how can the muscle deep in my hip affect my bite? Well, If one muscle on one side tightens it would pull anything above it to that side.  In order to prevent your eyes from going off the horizon the body will then balance by tightening opposing muscles while alternating sides all the way up to your jaw and base of you skull.  Is this the only reason for TMJ dysfunction, the answer is no.  However it is an important place to start.  The whole body apprach that considers how the body may be compensating to keep you "balanced," or at least your eyes level is just one aspect we consider to help you improve pain from TMJ.

Why the combined approach?  Myofascial Release (John Barnes style) uses a gentle sustaned apprach to address chronically tight areas.  While Acupuncture addresses the whole body and can help balance everthing from structure to holding patterns.  For example, the Gall Bladder channel we think of as one job it has is giving us the energy to stand erect.  The Gall Bladder Channel runs from the outside corner of your eye over and around your ear then all the way down your body to your fourth toe.  Treatment from multiple appraches helps to create a balance reduce discomfort or pain.
